BRAD TROSKY-JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INFORMATION 2026

Deadline for Scholarship Applications has been extended to December 31, 2025. 
Applications may be considered earlier depending upon the request.

Applicants must complete the online application at https://surveygoldcloud.com/s/5A28A89E7A7D43BF/270.htm  by the deadline of December 31, 2025, in order to be considered. Please note that not all applicants will be approved for a scholarship.

Eligibility for Scholarship Award:

  • 1.       Applicants must be a current member of the Idaho Fire Chiefs Association at the time of their application.  (Volunteer Departments may receive complimentary membership if their department has fewer than 20 volunteers, please contact IFCA for assistance).
  • 2.      Applicants must have been actively employed as a Chief Officer, Battalion Chief or Captain with a State of Idaho recognized Fire Department, Fire District or EMS Department for at least six months, and must be currently employed by that entity, or currently affiliated as a volunteer chief. 
  • 3.      ALL information must be completed in the online form for your application to be considered.

Award Categories

Full Scholarship        Annual Conference - Full scholarship recipients will receive paid Conference Registration and three- or four-nights lodging at the Idaho Fire Chiefs Conference.  This scholarship is only available for individuals that reside more than 45 miles from the Conference location.   Individuals residing more than 45 miles and less than 160 miles from the Conference location are eligible for three nights lodging only.  The 2026 Conference will be held at the Coeur d’Alene Resort; the 2027 Conference will be held at the Sun Valley Resort.

Registration Only      Recipients will receive a paid Conference Registration.
All applicants may be eligible for this award.

IGNITE Symposium   Hosted by the Western Fire Chiefs Association in March 2026 at the Red Rock Casino, Las Vegas.  Recipients will receive a paid Conference Registration including the 3/11 IGNITE Welcome Dinner. Value: $650
Applicants must provide their own transportation and lodging.

Award Criteria           Following is the hierarchy in which applicants will be scored for award    

First Tier                     Full volunteer service with a department of fewer than 20 volunteers, these incudes all personnel in the department.  (Chiefs down to volunteers) non-compensated for service.  Awards will also be ranked based on the number of personnel in the department.

Second Tier                Compensated Chief with paid on call Volunteers.  Awards will also be ranked based on the number of personnel in the department.

Third Tier                   Combination Department, which has paid full-time employees and paid on-call volunteers.  Awards will also be ranked based on the number of personnel in the department.

Fourth Tier                 Career Department Chief with all paid personnel.  Awards will also be ranked based on the number of personnel in the department.

No eligible applicants will be excluded for any reason without review, funding will be distributed based upon the tiers listed above.  First-time applicants will be given highest priority.

Once awards are determined, applicants will be notified with the details of the scholarship no later than January 20, 2025.

Brad Trosky-Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund.

 Dedicated to the memory of Chief Brad, who passed away suddenly in June of 2022, this scholarship has been established to provide funding for training opportunities for
Idaho’s Chief Fire & EMS Officers and Aspiring Leaders. 

Brad was a dedicated fire training professional who lovingly shared his knowledge and mentorship to countless firefighters and chief officers throughout the region for decades. We dedicate this scholarship in his honor.

Aims – The principal aim of this scholarship program is to offer registration and lodging scholarship opportunities to Idaho Chief Fire & EMS Officers and aspiring leaders.

Scholarship Award Amount– Will be determined based on the Scholarship Committee’s evaluation of the applications submitted.  Applications will be scored based up the award criteria.

Use of Scholarships– Scholarship awards may cover the full cost of the Conference including registration and lodging, or registration only.

Basis of Award – The Scholarship Committee, comprised of its members and Idaho Fire Chiefs Board Members, will make the final selection of Chiefs to receive a scholarship based on their review of the application form.
